Dominique Ostuni’s work explores the multi-faceted and intimate connections of everyday life. Through this body of work Ostuni reimagines conventional domestic objects, aiming to blur the traditional boundaries between painting, poetry, and ceramics. Imbued with personal narrative significance and introspective depth, each piece reflects her engagement with the nuances of interaction, pleasure, and the passage of time.

At the heart of this work is Ostuni’s conversation with domesticity and memory, intricate details expressed through drawings and text that serve to record the connections between herself and others, and between herself and material. These renderings, applied to hand-built porcelains with underglaze pencil, weave a rich tapestry of visual and conceptual layers, blending narrative depth and personal reflection. The kiln’s transformative process adds elements of serendipity, revealing unexpected outcomes that enrich the complexity of each piece’s story.

The porcelain here acts as an expressive canvas, where the dynamism and poetry of merging glazes juxtaposed with linguistic structure come together into utilitarian paintings, inviting others into the conversation. This work invites viewers to explore the interplay of time, touch, and light – offering a profound examination into material and metaphor.

Dominique Ostuni received her B.F.A in ceramics from Maine College of Art and Design. She has been a resident artist at CRETA in Rome, Italy.
